Scotland in Second Life

Scotland in Second Life is where I call home. A wondrous place full of fascinating people, the six regions that make up the Highlands of Scotland in Second Life represent over 17 years of community, collaboration and creativity by a diverse group of people, both from Scotland itself and from other regions of the world that embrace the lifestyle and culture of this beautiful country.

Part of the virtual Highlands of Scotland in Second Life, Nessie’s is a pub that has been in continuous operation since the Highlands was founded all the way back in 2008! A fun place to visit and meet people with nightly entertainment from a wide variety of DJ’s and occasional live performers. Owned and operated by Laura Taylor (Lauraclaire Benelli), Nessie’s is a must-visit stop on your Highland excursions.

The Victorian Marketplace building features several small stores selling both locally made Scottish apparel and items as well as being surrounded by other larger store buildings that make up the business district of Inverness City. Stroll through the building, grab some coffee at the corner cafe or wander the business district and visit the other stores and shops. Everything in Inverness City is a short walk from the business district.

Home of the Caledonian Ballroom, Brody Castle has been hosting the Grand Highland Classical Ball for well into its second decade. The formal ball is held each Sunday and features two hours of classical music brought to you by Magnus Brody and the Brody Orchestra. Even when not in use for events, the castle is open for visiting and touring 24 hours a day and features a large collection of artworks, furnishings and decor both inside and on the grounds

Beaufort Castle is an 1880’s Scots Baronial manor house recreated in Second Life by Ethan Finchfield. The massive castle features multiple levels, grand halls, hidden rooms and cozy spaces all rolled into one package. Nearby, Beauly Priory is a recreation of a 13th century ruined monastery with spectacular ocean views. Both are based on their real life counterparts in Beauly, Scotland.

Dornoch Cathedral is the largest church building in the Highlands of Scotland and is the centerpiece of the region of Dornoch. Constructed in the High Gothic style and based on the classic anglican cruciform layout, the Cathedral offers a large space for worship services, weddings and occasional musical events. Originally crafted in 2014 by Ethan Westland Finchfield, it has been continuously updated through many renovations and additions over the years.

Located across the street from Dornoch Cathedral, Trinity Coffee is a corner coffee shop offering 24/7 jazz music and a warm, inviting space for people to meet, talk and enjoy a virtual cup of coffee. Residents and visitors are always welcome to enjoy the shop and engage in stimulating conversation and coffee. Trinity Seraphim invites you to visit and drink it all in.

Located on a pier just west of Broadford in The Hebrides islands, Castle Seabrink’s Seaside Pub is a lovely place to enjoy the waters surrounding the Hebrides and take in a stunning sunset, view the Barra Lighthouse and enjoy a good meal with friends. Open to visit year round!

Located on the Isle of Jura within the Hebrides, the Seafarer Marine Institute is one of the finest marine centers in Second Life, housing a vast collection of information on the world’s oceans and in particular, the seas around Scotland. Just out back of the center, dive into the water and discover a vast underwater coral reef teaming with sea life. Get your SCUBA gear on and swim with the sharks or go inside the underwater research lab and enjoy the views around you!

Rock Ness is an outdoor musical and entertainment venue located on an island inside the ruins of a castle. Here, you can dance the night away to the music of Magnus Brody or enjoy a sumptuous meal under the stars. Events are held each Saturday evening, including the occasional specials and the sunsets are pure magic.

A quaint and charming village located on the western end of the great Loch Ness in Urquhart, the village features homes, a church and a famous coffee shop, the Troubadour, with wonderful views across Loch Ness. Stroll the walkways, visit St. Columba’s Church and enjoy a brisk cup of coffee in Loch Ness Village!

Headquarters of the Second Life Highlands of Scotland Railway, the station is connected via rail track to all points in Urquhart and Inverness City, with stopping points to connect to Dornoch and Beauly. Enjoy the scenic railroad views around Scotland and if train travel doesn’t appeal, catch the convenient bus that also stops here and at other stops along the roadways of Scotland.

Glen Coe is a natural region that connects to Beauly, Dornoch and the Hebrides, featuring mountains, valleys, winding roads and Loch Levin located in the center. Over 90% of the region is nature related, with only a couple of private residences, a small church and a pair of tiny short-term holiday rental cabins along the northern border river. Here you will find a recreation of Midhope Castle, which is used as the fictional Lallybroch Castle in the Outlander TV series, as well convenient horse rezzing stations near the entrance and boat rezzing along Loch Levin. Climb the hills and enjoy the spectacular vistas of Glen Coe while visiting the Highlands of Scotland in SL.
