Linden Lab to Roll Out New Price Plan

Just a quick update…I was part of the SL Blogger’s Network Zoom call earlier today to hear about upcoming things that will be offered in Second Life. One of the new rollouts coming in the first half of October is a new annual subscription plan that will allow an opt-out of stipends for a lower price, allowing residents who want the other perks of Premium Plus to get them without paying the higher costs that include stipends. Premium Plus users receive a weekly stipend of L$650 as part of their membership subscription; however, many users in SL just buy Linden dollars as they need them and don’t care about the stipends. Having this as an option to a Premium Plus account gives users a choice of plans that forego these if not wanted. The new plan also foregoes the L$3000 bonus a new subscriber would get after 45 days as a Premium Plus member. The chart included shows the new plans.

What wasn’t totally clear was whether this is only for annual subscriptions as shown-since the monthly was not shown or discussed, I’m not sure yet whether this will include monthly subscribers or not but since the bonus is mentioned, I think there is a good chance it will also result in lower monthly fees as well. Time will tell.

Response today has been overall favorable as this offers an avenue to Premium Plus membership at a much lower price for those who want the other perks and benefits.

Stay tuned for more news on this!
